Retirement Party Catering in Medellín
Medellin Elite Catering caters retirement parties for people leaving a long career in Medellín, whether the send-off happens in a boardroom, a factory canteen or a family finca. Since 2019 we have planned farewells where the food, the speeches and the slideshow all have to share the same two hours.
These parties are organized by HR teams, by colleagues who pass the hat, and by sons and daughters who want to honor a parent's working life. We plan with each of them in English or Spanish, invoice companies properly and keep family planning simple.
From boardroom toasts to finca lunches, we have learned that a retirement party is judged by its speeches. Our job is to make sure the food supports them instead of interrupting them.

Our Retirement Party Catering
We cater two kinds of retirement party: company farewells held at the office or a nearby venue, and family celebrations at home, in a restaurant room or at a finca. Many retirees get both, a workday send-off with colleagues and a weekend lunch with the people who waited for them at home every evening.
In Colombia most people reach pension age at 57 for women and 62 for men, though plenty keep working longer and leave after 30 or 40 years with one employer. Those long careers produce big guest lists, from the factory floor to the board, and a lot of people who want to say a few words.
For companies we provide everything a farewell needs on site: the menu, cooks, servers, tableware, setup and cleanup. For families we add the warmth of home cooking, the dishes the retiree loves and a pace that suits older relatives.
Office Farewell or Family Celebration?
An office farewell is usually a short weekday event paid by the company, while a family celebration is a longer weekend meal paid by relatives. The table compares the two.
| Office farewell | Family celebration | |
|---|---|---|
| Venue | Meeting room, cafeteria, office terrace, hotel room nearby | Home, finca, private restaurant room |
| Typical guests | 25 to 150 colleagues | 20 to 80 relatives and close friends |
| Time of day | Lunch, or 4 to 7 p.m. after work | Saturday or Sunday lunch |
| Duration | 1.5 to 2.5 hours | 4 to 5 hours |
| Menu style | Cocktail canapés or a lunch buffet | Seated lunch or family-style buffet |
| Who pays | Company, against an invoice | Family, by transfer or card link |
Office events lean on our corporate event catering experience, including building access and supplier registration. For a simple midday farewell in a meeting room, our corporate lunch catering platters and salads are quick to set out between meetings. Companies receive an itemized quote for approval, then an invoice in the company's name, and we send our RUT and bank certificate when procurement needs them.
We cater farewells in offices on the Milla de Oro, for which see our page on catering in El Poblado, and at plants and warehouses south of the city through catering in Itagüí. Family celebrations at home are covered on our family gathering catering page.
Menus That Leave Room for Speeches
The rule we follow is simple: quiet food during speeches, a real meal after them. While managers and colleagues speak, servers pass bite-size canapés that need no cutlery, such as mini arepas with hogao, chicken and pineapple skewers or palmito ceviche spoons, so there is no clatter of knives on plates.
When the slideshow starts, service pauses completely and servers stand at the edges of the room. Once the retiree has given the final speech, we bring out the plated course or open the buffet, and everyone eats in a relaxed mood.
For an evening office reception, plan 8 to 10 canapés per guest across two hours, then a dessert and coffee round during the gift. For a family lunch, we serve a starter before the first toast and hold the main course until the speeches are over, so the meat comes out at 60 °C rather than going cold during a long tribute.
Personal Touches
Small personal details turn a standard catering menu into a farewell people remember, and most are easy to arrange with a little notice. The most requested is recreating the retiree's favorite dish, whether that is the bandeja paisa from the restaurant near the office, a mother's recipe for frijoles antioqueños or a dish from a posting abroad, which our head chef can work out from a family description or a photo.
Companies often order cookies or a dessert decorated with an edible print of the company logo, which needs the logo file and the brand team's approval a week ahead. A memory table with photo albums, the retiree's old ID card and a guest book works well beside the coffee station, and we keep food a safe distance from anything irreplaceable. Some families finish with a toast of aguardiente antioqueño, served from bottles with the Antioquia tax stamp, or with a tasting of specialty coffee from the region for a retiree who spent a career in coffee.

Questions and answers
Retirement Party FAQs
Can the company pay while the family plans the menu?
Yes, we often split the roles that way. The family chooses the menu and the personal details with our coordinator, while the company approves the quote and receives an invoice in its name and tax ID (NIT). Anything the family adds beyond the approved quote goes on a separate invoice in the family's name.
Can you cater a farewell at our offices?
Yes, most office farewells we cater happen in the company's own meeting rooms, cafeterias or terraces. We need a table area near a power outlet, access to the building's loading bay or service elevator and a contact at reception to register our team. Setup takes about 90 minutes, and our standard staffed service window is 5 hours.
