Medellín event catering since 2019
Destination Weddings in Medellín, Colombia
Medellin Elite Catering has fed wedding guests across the Aburrá Valley and the green hills of Oriente Antioqueño since 2019. We cook every course in our own Medellín kitchen and send a full team to the venue, from cooks and servers to bartenders who know the local spirits.
Most of the couples who find this page live abroad, or one partner is Colombian and the other is not. They want a wedding in Colombia that feels local without being hard to organize from another time zone, so our coordinators plan in English over video calls and send an itemized quote within 24 hours.
Since 2019, weddings have taught us the most about timing, rain and long finca roads. This page walks through the whole weekend, then points you to the detailed page for each celebration.

Planning a Wedding in Colombia From Abroad
You can plan a full Colombian wedding without living here, as long as the vendors you hire work comfortably in English and keep the paperwork clear. We handle the food and drink for every event of the weekend, coordinate rentals such as tables, linens and tents through partner suppliers, and keep your planner updated in writing.
Couples abroad usually start with one video call, then a written quote within 24 hours. Colombia runs on UTC-5 with no daylight saving time, so our office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. overlap with most of the Americas and with European afternoons.
The pages linked below go deeper on each celebration. Start with the reception, then add the smaller events around it as your guest list takes shape.
Why Couples Choose Medellín
Couples pick Medellín because it combines spring weather, easy flights and dramatic venues within reach of the city. The city sits roughly 1,500 m above sea level, so days are warm and nights are mild enough for an evening garden reception without heaters. Up in Llanogrande and Rionegro the air is a few degrees cooler, which suits long dinners outdoors.
José María Córdova airport lies in Rionegro, a short drive from many of the region's wedding fincas, and it takes direct flights from several US cities. Guests can land in the morning and be at a welcome dinner the same night. El Poblado and Laureles give them walkable hotels, cafés and nightlife for the days around the wedding.

Every Event of the Wedding Weekend
A destination wedding in Medellín is rarely a single night. Guests travel far, so couples tend to fill two or three days with smaller gatherings, and each one needs a different kind of food.
- The reception. Our wedding catering service covers cocktail hour, dinner, cake service and late-night food for 20 to 900 guests.
- The night before. Rehearsal dinner catering ranges from an asado for the wedding party to a welcome dinner for everyone who flew in.
- After the proposal. Engagement party catering brings two families together over canapés or a seated dinner.
- A daytime celebration. Bridal shower catering means brunch, high tea or a garden lunch, often with a mimosa bar.
- The group trip. Bachelorette party catering feeds visiting friends in their villa, from recovery brunch to a private dinner.
- The morning after. A relaxed brunch catering spread sends guests home with arepas, fruit and Antioquian coffee.
Wedding Venues Around Medellín
Medellín wedding venues fall into four groups, and each one changes how we cook and serve. The table shows typical capacity and the catering logistics we plan for.
| Venue type | Where | Typical capacity | Catering logistics |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel terraces and rooftops | El Poblado, Laureles | 30 to 150 | Hotel kitchen access varies; we bring hot food in Cambro carriers and finish plating on site |
| Hillside fincas | Envigado and Sabaneta hills | 60 to 250 | Steep, narrow access roads; we plan van trips and a tent for the rainy months |
| Country fincas and haciendas | Llanogrande, Rionegro, La Ceja | 80 to 400 | Field kitchen, generator and water supply checked on a site visit |
| Lakeside and colonial venues | Guatapé, Santa Fe de Antioquia | 40 to 200 | 2 to 2.5 hours away; overnight crew and a hotter climate for Santa Fe |
Inside the city, most venues are 15 to 35 minutes from our kitchen. For fincas outside the valley, we visit before quoting, because the distance from the parking area to the reception lawn decides how many staff we need.
A 12-Month Planning Timeline
Twelve months is a comfortable runway for a Saturday wedding between October and December, and 3 to 4 months is enough for a weekday or off-season date. Use this timeline as a starting point.
| Months out | Task | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|
| 12 to 9 | Choose the date, venue and planner; request catering quotes | Couple and planner |
| 9 to 6 | Reserve the caterer with a deposit; book photography and music | Couple |
| 6 to 4 | Tasting for 2 at our kitchen; rentals and tent plan | Couple, planner and us |
| 4 to 2 | Final menu, bar plan, dietary list and floor plan | Us and planner |
| 1 | Service timeline and site visit at the venue | Us and planner |
| 10 days | Final headcount confirmed | Couple or planner |
| 7 days | Balance paid by bank transfer or card link | Couple |
| Wedding day | Team arrives 2 to 3 hours before service | Us |
Booking order matters most for December, when venues, planners and caterers fill up around the Alumbrados navideños. If your date falls in Feria de las Flores in August, reserve hotel blocks early as well.
Working With a Wedding Planner
A planner is worth hiring for almost every destination wedding, because someone has to manage vendors in person while you are abroad. A good wedding planner in Medellín handles permits, venue rules, transport for guests and the run of show, while we concentrate on the kitchen and the floor.
We share our floor plan, staffing chart and timeline with your planner so both teams work from one document. If you do not have a planner yet, our coordinators can explain which decisions need one and which ones you can manage directly with us.
Colombian Traditions Worth Including
Colombian weddings mix Catholic rituals with some of the liveliest party customs in Latin America. These are the ones international couples most often borrow, and how catering supports each.
| Tradition | What it is | How catering fits |
|---|---|---|
| Hora loca | A burst of masks, confetti and live percussion late in the night | We time a food round of empanadas or mini arepas right after it |
| Lazo and arras | A cord around the couple and 13 coins blessed in the ceremony | No food, but we hold cocktail service until the ceremony ends |
| Aguardiente toast | A round of anise-flavored aguardiente antioqueño | Bartenders pour stamped bottles in shot glasses at each table |
| Torta negra | A dark fruitcake soaked in wine, sliced and boxed for guests | Our dessert catering team boxes slices next to the wedding cake |
| Late-night food | A hot snack or broth before guests leave | Mini empanadas, chorizo with arepa or a small cup of consomé |
Couples do not need every tradition. Picking two or three gives foreign guests a real taste of a Colombian wedding without making the evening run long.
Questions and answers
Destination Wedding Questions
Is Medellín a good choice for a destination wedding?
Yes, Medellín is one of the easiest places in Colombia to host a destination wedding. The valley stays around 22 °C all year, José María Córdova airport has direct flights from several US cities, and fincas in the hills give you garden ceremonies within an hour of the city. El Poblado and Laureles give visiting guests walkable hotels close to most reception venues.
When is the best month to marry in Medellín?
The drier months are December to March and June to September, so they are the safest choice for an outdoor ceremony. April to May and October to November are the rainy seasons, when afternoon storms are common and a tent becomes essential. December is the busiest month of all, so Saturdays then should be booked 6 to 12 months ahead.
Can you coordinate with our planner overseas?
Yes, we work with planners abroad and in Colombia all the time. Your planner receives the itemized quote, the floor plan and the service timeline directly, and joins our video calls in English. Ten days before the wedding we confirm the final headcount with them, and on the day our event lead reports to whoever runs the schedule.
