Engagement Party Catering in Medellín

Medellin Elite Catering caters engagement parties in homes, rooftops and fincas around Medellín, from a Sunday lunch for both families to a 100-guest cocktail night. Our kitchen has prepared food for celebrations across the Aburrá Valley since 2019.

Many of the couples we serve are binational: one family speaks Spanish, the other English, German or French, and this party is the first time they share a table. Our bilingual coordinators and servers help that first meeting go smoothly, from the menu to the toast.

Years of family celebrations have taught us that an engagement party sets the tone for the wedding planning ahead. It is also the easiest moment to taste dishes you might want at the reception.

Our Engagement Party Catering

Our engagement party catering covers everything from passed canapés and a sparkling toast to a seated four-course dinner. The party usually happens a few weeks to a few months after the proposal, often at the home of one set of parents or on a rented rooftop.

In Colombia, the families of the couple traditionally meet at a pedida de mano, a formal evening when the groom asks the bride's parents for her hand. Today many couples turn that into a relaxed party, but the meeting of two families is still the heart of it.

Parties at homes in Laureles and the city center fall in our catering in Laureles zone, 15 to 30 minutes from our kitchen. Once the date is set, our wedding catering page explains how the reception itself is planned.

When Two Families Meet

When two families from different countries meet, the food does half the introductions. We design menus that bridge both cultures: Antioquian dishes such as chicharrón, patacones with hogao and arepas de chócolo next to one dish from the other family's tradition.

If the visiting family sends us a recipe they love, our head chef tests it in our kitchen and serves it alongside the local food. Guests notice that gesture more than any canapé.

Bilingual servers explain each dish in English or Spanish, so nobody has to guess what is on the tray. We also plan the toast: glasses filled and passed two minutes before the speeches, with sparkling wine for one family and aguardiente for the other if both traditions matter. The sparkling wine can come from our bar, or you can bring your own bottles.

Cocktail Party or Seated Dinner?

A cocktail party suits 40 or more guests and a mingling crowd, while a seated dinner suits 30 or fewer guests who want long conversations. Guest count and venue usually settle the question.

Staffing1 server per 25 to 30 guests1 server per 10 to 12 guests

A family lunch is the third option. It works well on a Sunday at a finca, with a buffet of sancocho or a lechona, and children can join without changing the menu.

Whichever format you pick, a staffed party includes the cooks, servers, plates, flatware, glassware, setup and full cleanup, so the host family is not washing dishes at midnight. High tables, chairs and linens are rentals we coordinate through partner suppliers and list on the same quote. Our team arrives 2 to 3 hours before the first guests to set up.

Engagement Party Menus

Engagement party menus range from canapés and grazing tables to a raw bar or a full plated dinner. These are sample menus we adapt to the season and your guest list.

Canapés. Mini arepas with hogao and avocado, chicharrón with guacamole, beef tenderloin crostini, goat cheese with uchuva jam, plantain chips with shrimp, and coconut cocadas for something sweet.

Grazing table. A long board of cured meats, quesito antioqueño and imported cheeses, fruit, nuts, breads and dips. One grazing table feeds 30 to 50 guests and stays attractive for about three hours, so it suits a party that runs into the evening.

Raw bar. Oysters on ice, shrimp ceviche, tuna tiradito with lime and Peruvian ají amarillo, kept below 5 °C on crushed ice the whole night. A cook stays at the bar to shuck and refill.

Plated dinner sample. A starter of burrata with roasted tomatoes, a main of slow-cooked short rib with yellow potato purée, and a dessert of maracuyá cheesecake. Our dessert catering team can add a small cake for the moment the couple cuts it together.

For a lighter evening of bites only, our finger food catering menu adds sliders, skewers and mini empanadas to the list. Two hours of passed food needs 8 to 12 pieces per guest, so we mix three or four savory pieces with one sweet one and repeat the rounds.

Questions and answers

Engagement Party FAQs

How soon after the proposal can you cater a party?

We can deliver a drop-off grazing spread with 48 hours of notice, and a staffed engagement party needs about two weeks. Weekend dates in December and during Feria de las Flores fill sooner, so tell us as soon as the ring is on. Our coordinators reply to every request within 24 hours, Monday to Saturday.

Can the engagement party preview our wedding menu?

Yes, and it makes an excellent informal tasting with a much larger panel. We build part of the menu from dishes you are considering for the reception, then note which ones the families finished first. If you book your wedding with us, the formal tasting for two at our kitchen still comes later in the planning.
