Garden Party Catering in Medellín

Medellin Elite Catering caters garden parties in Medellín, from a lunch on a lawn in Envigado to an afternoon reception at a Llanogrande finca or a country club terrace. Our daytime menus are built for sun, warm air and the long, easy afternoons this valley does so well.

Hosts book garden parties for birthdays, christenings, bridal showers, anniversaries and relaxed Sunday get-togethers with expat friends. Most run 30 to 120 guests somewhere between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Since 2019 we have learned which dishes survive an afternoon outdoors and which wilt in twenty minutes. We also watch the sky, because in Medellín a clear morning can turn into a heavy shower by 3 p.m.

Our Garden Party Catering

Our garden party catering is daytime outdoor catering for private gardens, finca lawns and club terraces, with food, drinks, staff and a weather plan. We set up a buffet or grazing table in the shade, a drinks bar and a dessert table, then manage the food safely until the last guest leaves.

Medellín sits at about 1,500 m, with afternoon temperatures around 27 °C and strong equatorial sun, so a garden party here feels warm but rarely hot. Up in Llanogrande, around 2,100 m, the same afternoon turns cooler and breezier, and we add heartier dishes and hot drinks for the later hours.

Garden parties in gated residential complexes often use shared green areas, which need the administration's approval just like a salón social. Our page on catering in Envigado covers the hillside neighborhoods where many of these gardens are.

Daytime Menus for Warm Afternoons

The best garden party foods are light, cold or grilled to order: salads, ceviches, skewers and fresh fruit. They taste better in warm weather than heavy stews and keep their texture on the table.

  • Ceviches in cups: shrimp with coconut and lime, or a vegetarian mango and hearts of palm ceviche, served on crushed ice.
  • Salads that hold: quinoa with roasted vegetables, lentils with feta and herbs, and a crunchy cabbage and green papaya slaw.
  • Skewers from a small grill: chicken with panela glaze, beef with chimichurri, halloumi with peppers.
  • Fresh fruit: mango, pineapple, uchuva, granadilla and watermelon, cut on site.
  • Soft rolls: roast pork with pickled onion, or chicken with avocado.

We avoid mayonnaise-heavy salads, cream sauces and soft cheeses left in the open, because they are the first foods to spoil in the heat. Our salad catering menu lists every salad we make for daytime events.

Desserts follow the same logic: lemon tarts, fruit pavlovas and coconut panna cotta kept in a chilled display, rather than buttercream cakes that slump by 2 p.m.

Juice, Lemonade and Spritz Bars

A juice and spritz bar is the signature drink station of a Medellín garden party, built on local fruits like lulo, mango and maracuyá. We blend and strain the juices on site so they stay bright, and a bartender turns them into spritzes for the adults.

Lulo has a sharp citrus flavor, maracuyá (passion fruit) is tart and perfumed, and mango brings sweetness, so offering all three covers every taste. We add a limonada de coco, a mint lemonade, and an Aperol or aguardiente spritz topped with maracuyá for those who want something stronger.

Plan about 3 to 4 glasses of soft drinks per guest over a four-hour afternoon, more if the sun is out. Ice is the item hosts most often underestimate, so we bring around 1 kg per guest in insulated coolers for drinks and for the ice baths under the cold food.

Keeping Food Safe Outdoors

We keep outdoor food safe with three tools: shade, ice and time limits. Cold dishes sit on ice baths below 5 °C, hot dishes stay above 60 °C in chafing dishes, and nothing perishable stays out for more than 2 hours.

Every buffet stands under a canopy or a tree, never in direct sun, because a tray in the midday sun warms far faster than the air around it. We refill from coolers in small batches instead of putting all the food out at once. Our buffet catering page explains how we size and staff a buffet line, with one server for every 20 to 25 guests.

Each tray carries an allergen label, and the coordinator checks temperatures with a probe thermometer through the afternoon. This follows Resolution 2674 of 2013, Colombia's good manufacturing practice rules for food, which govern our kitchen and every member of the team.

Tents and Rain Backup

Every garden party we cater has a rain plan, because Medellín's afternoon showers arrive fast, especially from April to May and October to November. The plan is either a rented tent or a covered terrace close enough to move the buffet in ten minutes.

We coordinate tents through partner suppliers and itemize them on the quote. As a guide, a 6 x 6 m tent covers a buffet and seating for about 30 guests, while a 10 x 10 m tent seats about 80.

Tents are best booked with the menu and set up the morning of the party on level ground. If rain looks likely, we move the drinks bar first and keep a covered route between the prep area and the buffet.

Questions and answers

Garden Party FAQs

What if it rains?

We switch to the rain plan agreed in your quote: a rented tent or a covered area on the property, with the buffet, drinks bar and seating moved under cover. During the April to May and October to November rainy seasons, we recommend booking the tent from the start rather than gambling on the forecast.

Do you supply garden furniture?

Yes, through partner rental suppliers we coordinate tables, chairs, lounge sets, parasols and linens, and each item appears on your quote. Plates, flatware, glassware and chafing dishes are already part of every staffed booking.
