Quinceañera Catering in Medellín
Medellin Elite Catering has cooked for 15 años parties across the Aburrá Valley since 2019, from 60-guest dinners in a family finca to 250-guest nights in event salons in Envigado and El Poblado. We handle the dinner, the dessert table, the teen-friendly drinks and the hora loca food that keeps the dance floor going after midnight.
Our clients are Medellín families, Colombian families living abroad who come home for the party, and mixed families where half the guests speak English. A bilingual coordinator plans the menu with the parents, follows the running order on the night and makes sure the quinceañera never waits for anything.
A quinceañera is longer and more choreographed than most weddings we cater. That is why our plan is built around the waltz, the toast and the entrance rather than around the kitchen's convenience.

Our Quinceañera Catering Service
Our quinceañera catering covers everything the guests eat and drink from arrival to the last song: welcome drinks, passed canapés, a plated or buffet dinner, the toast, the cake service, a dessert table and a late-night snack. We bring the cooks, servers, bartenders, chafing dishes, china and glassware, and we clean up before we leave.
Families usually book for 80 to 200 guests, and often a good share of them are relatives flying in from the United States or Spain. That changes the menu: visitors want to taste proper Antioquian food, while local guests expect something a little more formal than an ordinary Saturday lunch.
Tables, chairs, linens, the stage draping and the lighting come from partner rental suppliers or from your decorator. We itemize anything we coordinate, so the parents see every line on one quote before the deposit secures the date.
How a Quinceañera Night Unfolds, Course by Course
A 15 años party follows a fixed choreography, and each food service has to land between the big moments. The table shows a typical night starting at 7:30 p.m.
| Time | Party moment | What we serve |
|---|---|---|
| 7:30 p.m. | Guests arrive, photos at the backdrop | Welcome drinks and 2 to 3 passed canapés per guest |
| 8:30 p.m. | Entrance of the quinceañera, then the vals with her father and the chambelanes | Service pauses; servers stand clear of the dance floor |
| 9:00 p.m. | Brindis (the toast) | Sparkling wine for adults, sparkling grape juice for teens |
| 9:15 p.m. | Dinner | Plated courses or the buffet opens table by table |
| 10:30 p.m. | Cake cutting and open dancing | Cake plated and passed, dessert table opens |
| 12:00 a.m. | Hora loca | Snack cart rolls out on the edge of the dance floor |
| 1:30 a.m. | Last songs | Hot caldo or coffee, leftovers packed for the family |
A night like this lasts 6 to 7 hours, longer than our standard 5-hour staffed service, so the quote adds the extra hours per staff member. Our team arrives 2 to 3 hours before the first guest to set up the kitchen and the bar.
Dinner Menus for 15 Años Parties
Choose a plated dinner when you want a formal feel and have up to about 150 guests; choose a served buffet when the guest list is larger or the family wants more variety. Both include a teen-friendly option so the classmates eat as happily as the grandparents. For parties above 150 guests, our large event catering team adds a second service line so dinner does not drag.
A typical plated menu starts with a cream of ahuyama (squash) soup or a palmito salad, moves to beef tenderloin in a red wine and panela sauce or chicken breast stuffed with spinach and campesino cheese, and comes with criolla potatoes and roasted vegetables. We serve 180 to 220 g of protein per adult and 1 server for every 10 to 12 guests.
A buffet usually carries two proteins, such as slow-roasted pork loin with pineapple and grilled chicken in mushroom sauce, plus coconut rice, a green salad and maduros (sweet plantains). For teens we add a pasta station or crispy chicken strips with honey mustard, and vegetarian guests get a lasagna or stuffed peppers from a separate tray.
Hora Loca and Late-Night Snacks
The hora loca is the half hour of noise, masks, whistles and samba-style batucada music that hits a Colombian party around midnight, and it needs food that can be eaten in one hand while dancing. We roll out a snack cart with paper cones of salchipapas, mini burgers, arepitas with melted cheese, chorizo bites with lime and our corn empanadas from the empanada catering menu, fried minutes earlier.
Plan on 3 to 4 pieces per guest, because dinner was three hours earlier and the dancing burns through it. Some families prefer a more traditional close, so near the end of the night we can serve small cups of caldo de costilla (beef rib broth) or calentado with arepa, a classic Antioquian way to send guests home warm. Both items need a staffed hot station, so tell us at quote stage which you want.

Cake, Dessert Table and Candy Station
The quinceañera's cake usually comes from a specialist cake designer, and we take care of everything around it. We receive the cake, store it at the right temperature, set it on the cake table, cut it after the photo and plate it for every guest.
Our kitchen builds the dessert table in the party colors, with items such as mini tres leches cups, pink macarons, chocolate truffles, fruit tartlets and obleas with arequipe. We share the color palette with your decorator early so the table, the flowers and the backdrop match.
A candy station with gummies, marshmallows and chocolate-dipped strawberries keeps the younger guests busy during the adult toasts. Our dessert catering page lists the full range if you want a bigger sweet spread.
Booking Timeline for a 15 Años Party
Book your quinceañera catering 3 to 6 months ahead, and closer to 6 months for a Saturday between October and December. Popular event salons and fincas fill up early, and our calendar follows them.
| When | Step |
|---|---|
| 3 to 6 months before | Send the brief, receive the quote, pay the deposit to hold the date |
| 6 weeks before | Tasting for 2 at our kitchen and final menu choice |
| 4 weeks before | Running order agreed with the venue, the DJ and the decorator |
| 7 days before | Final headcount, dietary list and the balance payment |
| Party day | Team on site 2 to 3 hours before arrival |
If the date has to move and you tell us more than 60 days ahead, the deposit transfers to a new date within 12 months. We cater 15 años parties across Medellín, Sabaneta and the fincas of the Oriente, and many families choose event salons for catering in Envigado, where parking and late closing hours suit a long night.
Questions and answers
Quinceañera Catering FAQs
How many guests does a typical quinceañera in Medellín have?
Most quinceañeras we cater in Medellín have 80 to 200 guests, with a mix of relatives, family friends and the birthday girl's classmates. Under about 100 guests a plated dinner is easy to run; above 150, a served buffet or two buffet lines keeps dinner inside 45 minutes so the dancing can resume.
Can you serve alcohol-free drinks for the teenage guests?
Yes, every quinceañera we cater gets a mocktail bar for the under-18s, kept apart from the adult bar. It serves lulada, maracuyá frappé, limonada de coco and sparkling juice for the toast. Our bartenders do not serve alcohol to minors, which Colombian law prohibits, and they check with the parents when a guest's age is unclear.
