Christmas Party Catering in Medellín
Medellin Elite Catering caters Christmas parties across Medellín from late November into the first days of January: company year-end celebrations, novena nights with the team and festive gatherings among friends. We cook, serve and pour, so the host can actually enjoy the party.
Our holiday clients are HR teams at local and foreign companies, building administrations hosting a novena for residents, and households gathering the extended family. Groups range from 15 guests in a living room to 900 in a convention hall, which is the size of the biggest year-end party on our record.
We have planned December parties in English and Spanish since 2019, with itemized quotes that a finance team can review line by line. We know how holiday traffic, Alumbrados crowds and shared venue kitchens affect service, and we plan around all three.

Our Christmas Party Catering
We cater four kinds of holiday event: company year-end parties, novenas, staff snack boxes and private parties at home. Each gets a menu built for its time of day, from a 4:00 p.m. office celebration with sweets to a 9:00 p.m. dinner with an open bar.
Most parties use one of three service styles: a hot buffet, passed canapés with live stations, or a plated dinner for an awards night. For family parties and smaller teams, our buffet catering setup works from 15 guests, with chafing dishes, tableware and a server for every 20 to 25 guests.
Novenas: Nine Nights of Gatherings
The novena de aguinaldos is a prayer said on each of the nine nights from 16 to 24 December, followed by carols and food. Families take turns hosting, and many companies and residential buildings set aside one night for their staff or residents.
After the prayers, guests expect natilla and buñuelos, often with hojuelas, hot chocolate or a shot of aguardiente for the adults. For a novena of 40, we plan two buñuelos and one 80 g square of natilla per person, plus a few spares for the children who come back for seconds.
You can book a single night as a drop-off tray, or all nine nights with a rotating menu so nobody eats the same buñuelo nine evenings running. A typical rotation moves from empanadas to tamales to a sweet table on the 24th, with drop-off orders placed 48 hours before each night.
Company Year-End Parties
Year-end parties are the largest events of our season, for 50 to 900 staff in hotel ballrooms, convention halls, fincas and company terraces. The usual format combines a welcome cocktail, a hot buffet or plated dinner, one or two live stations and a bar.
For a party of 300 on a buffet, we staff 12 to 15 servers (1 per 20 to 25 guests) and 4 to 6 bartenders (1 per 50 to 75 guests). Live stations spread the crowd and keep the buffet line short: a carving board for pernil, a pasta station or an arepa grill with chorizo and hogao.
We work with venues across the valley, from event halls on the Milla de Oro (covered by our catering in El Poblado) to fincas in Llanogrande, and we coordinate tables, chairs, linens, tents and decor through partner suppliers. Parties of more than 150 follow our large-scale event catering planning, and our corporate event catering team looks after the rest of the company calendar.
The bar runs as an open bar or by consumption, and we pour only spirits carrying the Antioquia department tax stamp. Companies that prefer to supply their own whisky or aguardiente can do so, and our bartenders chill, pour and track it through the night.
Holiday Snack Boxes for Staff
Holiday snack boxes, known locally as refrigerios navideños, are boxed Christmas treats for teams that cannot gather in one place, or for a celebration during working hours. Many companies send them on the day of the office novena or with the year-end bonus announcement.
A standard box holds two buñuelos, a square of natilla, hojuelas with arequipe and a juice. Premium boxes add a savory item such as a mini tamal or a ham and cheese pandebono, plus a card printed with your company message.
We fry the buñuelos on the morning of delivery, because they lose their crunch overnight, and boxes reach offices from 7:00 a.m. Everything is packed in compostable kraft boxes, and each one carries an allergen label for milk, wheat and eggs.

Combining With Medellín's Alumbrados
The Alumbrados navideños are the city's Christmas lights, switched on by the public utility EPM around the start of December and kept running into January along the river parks and in neighborhoods across Medellín. Many companies time an evening party so the team can walk the lights after dinner.
Timing matters on these nights. The lights come on after dark, and traffic near the main routes crawls from about 6:00 p.m. on weekends, so we schedule our van to arrive at the venue before the evening rush and plan either dinner at 6:00 p.m. with the walk at 8:00 p.m., or a late buffet once the group returns.
When a group is too large to walk the route together, a rooftop or hotel terrace overlooking the valley gives everyone the view without the crowd. If your party falls on 7 December, Día de las Velitas, our decor partners can line the terrace with paper lanterns (faroles) for the candle lighting at nightfall.
Booking Deadlines for the Holiday Season
Book your December party by October, because the first two weekends of December are fully committed long before our usual 2-week lead time for staffed events. Parties over 80 guests include a tasting for 2 at our kitchen, which we schedule in October and November.
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| August to September | Set a guest estimate and request a quote |
| October | Tasting, confirm the menu, pay the deposit |
| November | Choose the bar format, confirm the venue layout |
| 7 days before | Final headcount and balance due |
Deposits are flexible early on: if the party moves while it is still more than 60 days away, the deposit transfers to a new date within 12 months. Inside 30 days the deposit is not refundable, so we suggest confirming the date before November.
Questions and answers
Christmas Party FAQs
When should a company book its Christmas party catering?
A company should book by October for any December date, and by September for a Friday or Saturday in the first half of the month. Those weekends are the first to go every year. Parties in late November or the first week of January have more room and can sometimes be arranged with a few weeks' notice.
Can you deliver holiday snack boxes to several offices?
Yes, one order of snack boxes can be split across several offices in the Aburrá Valley, each with its own delivery window. Boxes are labeled by office so each site receives the right count. Place the order at least 48 hours ahead, and earlier in December, when delivery windows fill fast.
